Online marketing isn’t easy, but you can succeed at it by using either a lot of money or a lot of time, or, ideally both. This means being willing to commit to a sustained program of learning about marketing, your audience, and huge suite of digital tools available for this new and young form of promotion, and figuring out the best combination of these three. It’s also about keeping in mind these three very important pillars of success.
If you’re going to market or promote something online, maintain consistency. Don’t put out content at random, haphazard times in bursts of productivity that suddenly drop into silence for weeks or months. Put something out on a regular schedule, whether that’s twice a week at 7:00 pm, or every day at 10:00 am. Consistency is part of building an audience, and that’s an important battle to win.
Socialize & Share
Interactivity is the name of the game on the Internet. The days of being a brick wall that makes announcements with no attempt to engage with customers is over. Successful marketing means not just promoting material, but taking the time to interact with potential customers, and to share things beyond just the product or service being marketed. Legitimate links to other websites, social media, the latest video gone viral or anything else is critical to being heard and listened to.
Value Still Matters
The old saying “content is king” still applies. If your marketing can provide something of actual value to the consumer, then they will tune in and listen to what you have to say. Of course, Google itself is a search engine, not a thinking reader, so how its complex algorithms judge value and assign rankings on a search page is a constant, moving target. But one thing remains the same; if people like your content, they will constantly refer to it, and Google always notices that and rewards you accordingly.
